Copy & messaging

Free website copy audit

Most weak pages are not badly designed, they are vaguely written. This scan reads your copy for specificity, benefit and clarity — and quotes the lines that fail.

What you get: your FixSift score and your highest-priority findings, with the evidence behind each one. See what FixSift checks.

What the scan checks

This page reads the FixSift scan through one lens: headline, messaging, benefits, specificity and the words on your buttons. The scanner is the same one the homepage uses — what changes is which findings are brought to the front.

Headline

Whether the first line names an offer and an audience, and whether it would still read correctly on a competitor's site.

Messaging consistency

Whether the page tells one story or three, and whether the sub-headline supports the headline or changes the subject.

Benefits versus features

Whether the page says what changes for the reader, or only what the product contains.

Specificity

Abstract nouns, hedging and filler are identified by quotation, so you can see exactly which lines carry no information.

Call-to-action wording

Whether the button says what happens next, and whether it matches the commitment the visitor is being asked to make.

Why this matters

Copy is the cheapest thing on a website to change and usually the most consequential. A clearer headline costs an afternoon; a redesign costs a quarter.

It is also the hardest thing to judge from the inside, because the people writing it already know what every sentence means.

FixSift reads the words without that context and reports where meaning is assumed — which is nearly always at the top of the page, in the line that matters most.

What this looks like in practice

"Empowering businesses to reach their full potential"

Nothing in the sentence identifies an industry, a problem, an audience or an outcome. It passes the swap test on almost any site.

A sub-headline that contradicts the headline

The headline promises simplicity, the sub-headline lists twelve capabilities. The reader resolves the conflict by leaving.

"Submit" on the most important button

It describes what the form does, not what the visitor gets.

Common issues we find

Writing for the people who already understand

Internal shorthand reads as precision inside the company and as noise outside it.

Adjectives instead of evidence

"Innovative", "leading" and "trusted" are claims the reader is asked to accept without any basis.

Benefits written as features with a verb

"Provides real-time reporting" is still a feature. What changes for the reader when they have it?

Every section opening the same way

Repetitive structure makes a page skimmable in the bad sense: the reader recognises the pattern and stops reading.

Frequently asked questions

Will FixSift rewrite my copy?

The free scan identifies the problems and quotes the lines. The paid rewrite product drafts replacement copy for the main sections of your homepage, which you can edit, regenerate section by section and export.

Does it check spelling and grammar?

No. It looks at whether the writing communicates and persuades, not at mechanics. A spellchecker does that job better.

Can it review copy in languages other than English?

The analysis is strongest in English. Pages in other languages can be scanned, but findings about nuance and tone will be less reliable.

Is the copy audit separate from the website audit?

It is the same scan, reported through a messaging lens. The findings about clarity and specificity are the same findings, ordered to be useful to whoever is writing.
