Problem

Why is my website not converting?

Almost always one of four things: the visitor did not understand the offer, did not believe it, did not know what to do next, or was asked for too much too early. Here is how to tell which.

What you get: your FixSift score and your highest-priority findings, with the evidence behind each one. See what FixSift checks.

How to tell which one applies

This page reads the FixSift scan through one lens: diagnosing which of the common causes applies to your page. The scanner is the same one the homepage uses — what changes is which findings are brought to the front.

Did they understand?

If a stranger cannot restate your offer after one screen, nothing downstream matters. This is the most common cause and the least suspected.

Did they believe it?

Claims without evidence produce polite scepticism rather than objection. Visitors leave without ever telling you why.

Did they know what to do?

Pages with no dominant action, or several competing ones, leave the decision to the visitor, who defers it.

Were they asked for too much?

A long form, a required account or a gated price placed before value is established converts only the already-convinced.

Was the page even for them?

Traffic that was never the right audience will not convert regardless of the page. Check the source before rebuilding.

Why this matters

Conversion problems feel mysterious because the people who leave do not explain themselves. Analytics tells you where they went, not what they failed to understand.

In practice the causes are a short list, and they occur in order: comprehension, belief, direction, effort. A page that fails at comprehension cannot be fixed by improving the button.

Working through them in that order is what makes the difference between a redesign and a fix. Most sites need one paragraph rewritten, not a new site.

What this looks like in practice

Good traffic, vague offer

Ad spend sending qualified visitors to a homepage that describes an approach rather than a product.

Strong offer, no action

The page persuades and then ends, leaving the visitor to find the contact page themselves.

Clear action, unanswered objection

Everything works except that nothing on the page addresses the price, and price was the hesitation.

What usually goes wrong

Redesigning before diagnosing

A new design that carries the same unclear message converts the same or worse.

Testing button variants first

Micro-tests on a page with a comprehension problem measure noise.

Blaming the traffic

Sometimes true, and easy to check: look at whether any segment converts before rewriting the page.

Fixing everything at once

Changing ten things means learning nothing about which one mattered.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know which cause applies to me?

Have someone unfamiliar with your business read the page and tell you what you sell, who it is for and what to do next. FixSift automates that reading and reports where the answer breaks down, with the lines that caused it.

Is a low conversion rate always the page's fault?

No. Traffic quality, pricing, market timing and the offer itself all matter and none of them are visible on the page. FixSift only reports what the page itself makes unclear.

What is a normal conversion rate?

It varies so widely by industry, traffic source and offer that a single benchmark would be misleading. FixSift does not quote one, and treats your own before-and-after as the useful comparison.

Where should I start?

With comprehension. Run the free scan, read the first finding, and fix that before touching anything else.
